Attention:
Social Workers (Registration Notice)
The Council
of Social Workers Board would like to inform you that the deadline
for all social workers required to register with the Council of
Social Workers in Zimbabwe in terms of section 4 (1) (a) of the
Social Workers Act (Chapter 27:21) has been set for 28th February
2012. The Council would like to impress upon all those required
to register including the Probation Officers in the Department,
and Social Workers in other government Departments, Social Workers
in Local Authorities, Social Work practitioners in NGOs registered
in terms of the PVO
Act and Residential Homes.
After the said
deadline, the Magistrates' Court in Zimbabwe and other stakeholders
will be advised in terms of section 5 of Statutory Instrument 179:
Prohibition against practice without practising certificate, which
states that:
"No person
shall practice as a social worker, directly or indirectly, by himself
or herself or in partnership or association with anyone person except
in accordance with the terms and conditions of a valid practising
certificate issued to him or her by the Council."
The Council
of Social Workers is a product of the Social Workers Act (Chapter
27:21) and was enacted by the President and Parliament
of Zimbabwe in 2001. The functions of the Council of Social Workers
are to register social workers, to conduct examinations to qualify
people for registration, to define and enforce ethical practice
and discipline among registered persons and to take such steps as
the Council considers necessary or desirable to enhance the status
and effectiveness of the profession of social work. According to
the Third Schedule (Section 23) of the Social Workers Act (27:21),
persons who qualify for registration as Social Workers fall into
the following category:
A person who
-
- Is of or
over the age of 21
- Is ordinarily
resident in Zimbabwe
- Has obtained
a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in social work from any recognizable
university in Zimbabwe.
Registration
Requirements:
- Completion
of registration forms (obtained from the office or downloaded
from CSW
website)
- Certified
copies of transcript, Degree or Diploma Certificate, National
I.D and Birth certificate
- Two (2) color
passport size photos
- Payment of
stipulated fees (deposited into our bank account or paid as cash
at our offices)
- Reference
letter from employer or referee.
