Greetings from
New Hope Foundation, we once again come to you reminding you of
the ever growing challenge being faced by children in the whole
world. Universally children are being abused in different ways,
sexually, physically emotionally and verbally. Of our concern is
the exploitation of children in different areas especially in the
developing countries. This we once again join the rest of the World
in Commemorating the World Day Against Child Labor as a follow-up
to our already started campaign against child Labour in Zimbabwe
which gannered support during our one month long 541 kilometer physical
march coded The
Global march Against Child Labour Zimbabwe 2007.
The theme of the Day
this year is "Education: the right response to child Labor".
The Republic of Zimbabwe
is located in S central Africa and is bordered by Zambia (N), by
Mozambique (NE & E), by South Africa (S), and by Botswana (SW
& W). Harare (formerly Salisbury) is its capital and largest
city. The HIV/AIDS pandemic; declining economic performance; political
polarization, unfavorable environmental conditions (drought and
other natural phenomena); policy constraints, limited donor support
for development programs; and depleted capacity in the social service
sectors have led to the world's fastest rise in child mortality.
The economic and social
environment currently prevailing in the country is one such that
citizens are forced to resort to whatever means of survival they
can take for an option versus poverty and hunger. With an unemployment
rate above 80%, and the inflation rate having risen to more than
9 000%, the ordinary citizen is still expected to cope and live
in this harsh environment. The Zimbabwean population's resilience
is of amazing nature, the majority of the families in the total
population of the country can hardly afford a decent meal once in
every 48 hours. Children grow up from birth to the age of 15 with
barely nothing too cover their bodies and protect them from the
harsh weather save for a very light tattered piece of cloth slung
over their shoulders and waist to cover their genitals. There is
now organized begging by children in the streets looking for means
to find food. The most difficult question to answer given the current
situation is, "who then has something to spare and give to
the beggar" But does it mean we have to just look and ignore
the number of children begging on the streets increase as we concentrate
on our own problems?
In Zimbabwe Child Labour
dates back to the 1950s.Evidence suggest that the total population
of working children in Zimbabwe of ages 10-14 years is 1 803 556.
As we commemorate this
day we would appreciate your support in any way as we stand in solidarity
with the working child.
Regards
