Prime Minister Tsvangirai mourns Deputy Minister Mudzingwa
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai
April 11, 2012

I have learnt with shock the passing on of the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Senator Tichaona Mudzingwa.

Dr. Mudzingwa died at the Avenues Clinic last night after a short illness. He was 69.

Zimbabwe has lost a pillar of strength, a cadre dedicated to the struggle for the independence and for the freedom of the people.

Until his death, Dr. Mudzingwa was known for his openness and for his unwavering support for reforms that will unshackle Zimbabweans from the yoke of bondage.

A distinguished liberation war hero and a member of the Military High Command from 1975 to 1980, the late Deputy Minister was an illustrious cadre who served his country with honour and distinction.

Dr. Mudzingwa, a Retired Army Colonel, joined the struggle as the first medical doctor to receive full military training and was at one time commander of the Zimbabwe Medical Corps.

The late Dr Mudzingwa was a founder member of the MDC. The story of the MDC cannot be told without mentioning Dr. Mudzingwa.

I join his family, the MDC family, the Government of Zimbabwe and indeed the nation in mourning the sad departure of this illustrious son.

Go well Dr. Tichaona Mudzingwa.
