Two MDC activists flee their homes after receiving death threats
Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR)
September 18, 2009

Mt Darwin

Two MDC activists in Kapiripiri village in Mt Darwin North, Rebecca Chavhunduka, district chairlady for Mt Darwin North and Paul Chamboko MDC ward chairman Kapiripiri ward, were last week forced to flee their homes after receiving death threats from three ZANU PF supporters from the same area.

ZANU PF councilor Zingane Makabichi, headman Mutemamombe and an unidentified youth gave Chavhunduka and Chamboko a 24 hours notice to vacate the village or they could be made to disappear forever. Information made available to ROHR Zimbabwe, is that Colonel Zonge is behind the cleanup exercise to 'wipe out the remaining MDC activist in Kapiripiri ward.' He is said to have promised to bolster the terror squad with a new vehicle to execute their duties effectively.

Supporters of the MDC in Kapiripiri village accuse Colonel Zonge of coordinating a reign of in terror in their area during the one man presidential elections of June 2008 in which the president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), Morgan Tsvangirai pulled out citing incidence of violence targeted against his supporters by the octogenarian leader Robert Mugabe. Hundreds lost their lives and livelihoods as a result of the political violence.

Rampant reports of politically motivated violence have been reported in Bindura despite the agreement by the parties to the Global Political Agreement (GPA) to guarantee adherence to the rule of law, free political activity, freedom of association and assembly and respect for human rights.

Nearly a year after the formation of the coalition government, Zimbabwe remains dogged in a multi faceted crisis inter twined with the slow implementation of the GPA. At the centre of the crisis is the failure by the political parties to own up to their obligations. Neither of the parties involved accepting blame in the wake of a raging blame game that lives the people of Zimbabwe as the ultimate losers.

Bindura

Machiridza at it again

Notorious ZANU PF losing councilor for ward 3 in Bindura Mathias Machiridza on Satuarday 12th September 18, 2009 assaulted three youths(who have requested their names to be kept anonymous) from Kingstone farm for taking part in a project that seeks to clean the city of Bindura, which is being spearheaded by MDC councilors under the banner 'Shandira Zimbabwe.'

Machiridza told the youths that he was not happy with their participation in a program that would give mileage to MDC councilors.

Masvingo

ROHR Zimbabwe Masvingo Provincial committee to donate clothes to victims of political violence

Meanwhile, a ROHR Zimbabwe delegation headed by the National Chairman, Ray Muzenda will today donate clothes in ward 32 Chinanga village in Bikita west constituency. Chinanga village of chief Marozva is one of the worst affected areas by the orgy of violence which swept the country in last year's harmonized elections. Women and children were the hardest hit from the terror and intimidation campaigns carried out by youth militia, ZANU PF supporters and uniformed forces.

The Member of Parliament for Bikita West constituency, honorable H. Shoko and councilor Chinonga are expected to grace the occasion.

ROHR Zimbabwe is advocating for a victim centered National Healing exercise that captures three broad fundamental steps in achieving sustainable peace, TRUTH, JUSTICE AND COMPENSATION. It is our view that in order to achieve lasting peace, there should be good governance, rule of law and respect for human rights.
