  • Supreme Court bail ruling for 6 MDC activists set for next Wednesday
    Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
    November 03, 2011

An appeal application for bail by six jailed MDC activists who are facing false charges of murdering a police officer will be heard at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, 09 November by Justice Luke Malaba.

The six, Councillor Tungamirai Madzokere of Ward 32 in Glen View, Lazarus Maengahama, Stanford Maengahama, Rebecca Mafukeni, Yvonne Musarurwa, and Phineas Nhatarikwa, are part of 28 MDC members who were arrested in May on allegations of murdering a police officer at Glen View 3 Shopping Centre.

The others have been granted bail at the High Court but the six including the MDC Youth Assembly chairperson, Solomon Madzore are still in remand prison.

They were denied bail at the High Court after the State opposed bail claiming that they were a flight risk.

The police officer was murdered by unknown revellers at a nightclub.
