Fresh bail ruling for the 29 MDC members postpone as trial resumes
Wednesday
Movement
for Democratic Change (MDC)
June
05, 2012
High Court judge, Justice Chinembiri Bhunu today postponed indefinitely,
the bail application by the 29 MDC members who are facing two forged
charges of murdering a police officer and public violence in
Glen View, Harare last year in May.
However, the
trial of the 29 accused, which resumed on Monday, will continue
before the same judge at the High Court tomorrow, Wednesday.
The State prosecutor,
Edmore Nyazamba is opposing bail claiming that the accused will
abscond as they are a flight risk. All the 29 members are in remand
prison.
The defence
lawyers said the claims by the State are recycled arguments and
baseless as the accused have been granted bail before and did not
disobey their bail conditions.
Fresh bail applications
by the 29 MDC members have been rejected on several occasions by
Justice Bhunu who ruled that they should first make their pleas
and submit their defence outlines.
This was done
on Monday and all the 29 pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, police
continued to maintain their heavy presence outside the High Court.
In the morning,
heavily armed riot police details barred hundreds of MDC members
and relatives of the accused from entering the court.
