  • Hospitalised and incarcerated MDC member to get a private doctor
    Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
    July 16, 2012

High Court judge, Justice Chinembiri Bhunu has ordered that a private medical doctor should visit Harare Central Prison hospital to check on the health status of critically ill Gapara Nyamadzawo.

Nyamadzawo is admitted in hospital and is part of the 29 MDC members in remand prison facing false charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View, Harare last year.

The State is opposed to Nyamadzawo seeking treatment at a private hospital.

However, Justice Bhunu is expected to make a ruling on whether Nyamadzawo should get outside medical treatment after getting a report from the private medical doctor.

The trial failed to resume today at the High Court as Nyamadzawo could not make it to court forcing Justice Bhunu and the defence and State lawyers to visit him in prison hospital. The defence lawyers who saw him today in hospital said Nyamadzawo was in a critical condition and was shivering.

A prison doctor is checking on Nyamadzawo's condition only once a week.

Trial will only resume after Nyamadzawo has recovered.
