MDC activist faces eviction in Mberengwa
Movement
for Democratic Change (MDC)
July
23, 2012
Rugare Gwezuva, an MDC supporter in Mberengwa North, Midlands South
has been given until 4 August to vacate the area by Chief Mapiravana
after he reported and led the arrest of a Zanu PF supporter who
had assaulted him.
The incident took place on 17 June this year.
Admire Sibanda, a Zanu PF well known thug and four of his family
members attacked Gwezuva and severely assaulted him for supporting
the MDC. After the assault, Gwezuva reported the matter to the police
who arrested one Dube, a son-in-law to Sibanda and one of the assailants.
Dube was subsequently sentenced to 12 months in prison, which he
is currently serving.
This did not go down well with Sibanda who connived with Chief Mapiravana
to evict Gwezuva from the area.
"As we speak, unknown people supposedly acting on the orders
of Chief Mapiravana have removed the perimeter fence surrounding
my homestead and vandalized my cattle pen," narrated Gwezuva.
In a separate development, Professor John Makumbe has deplored corruption
caused by years of Zanu PF's misrule. Speaking at an Ideological
Series Lecture in Harare last Friday, Professor Makumbe said.
"In recent years because of political patronage recruitment
and development into the civil service has not been on merit. Loyalty
to the Zanu PF party and its leader were the major criteria for
appointment especially in the provincial structures of the public
service.
"I have personally received several letters from senior police
officers, from civil servants complaining that the war veterans
who were appointed into the ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police), ZNA
(Zimbabwe National Army), the Air Force and the public service were
not writing the same exams which the rest of students were writing
before they could be promoted."
The Ideological Series Lectures are a brain-child of the MDC and
are held every Friday in Harare. The main objective of the debates
is to enlighten party members and other stakeholders on national
and international developments socially, economically and politically.
The discussion forum is also meant to inculcate a culture of debate
among Zimbabwean citizens.
