Lion
darted in Kariba township
Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force (ZCTF)
September 06, 2004
 After
our last tragic report about "Wholesome", the young elephant which
died with a snare around his neck, we are happy to now be able to
tell a story with a happy ending.
Last week in
Kariba, a group of Africans noticed 3 lions in the bush, close to
their township. They started taunting them and throwing rocks at
them. One of the lions, a two year old male became upset and charged
into the township, taking refuge in a public toilet.
The police,
the army and Steve Pope, a safari operator were called in to assist.
Steve managed to throw a net over the lion and called a veterinary
surgeon to dart him. The vet arrived, tranquilized him and released
him back into the bush.
 We
would like to thank all those concerned for resolving the problem
without having to shoot the lion.
Steve is now
appealing to the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force for funds to pay
the vet for the tranquilizer which is extremely costly so if anybody
is able to assist, we would be very grateful.
